CES: Vimeo courts filmmakers with larger upload limits

Vimeo wants your full-length movies. The video sharing site has announced that Vimeo Plus members may now upload up to 5GB of content in a single file, enough to contain up to 2.5 hours of HD video content. Previously, member uploads were limited to 2GB.

Vimeo says heavy file compression means the 5GB uploads won’t suffer any compromise in quality. An annual Vimeo Plus subscription is $59.95.

The Hong Kong-based company Megavideo, another online video community, offers its Premium members unlimited file size at an annual cost of €59.99, but the site is known for hosting pirated content. YouTube’s hosting of feature-length films is currently limited to its studio partners.

“Since we launched our Vimeo Plus service two years ago, we have continually added to and rounded out its offerings,” said Dae Mellencamp, Vimeo’s General Manager. “We continually strive to provide our subscriber base with the best and most robust features available.”
